Roop Verma was a reputable sitarist, composer and a teacher of Indian classical and esoteric music.
One could say that Roop’s musical career started several hundred years ago, as the knowledge on which his tradition is built has its roots both among the mystics of ancient and medieval India, as well as in the music we know today from concert halls.
He was born into a music-loving family and grew up in an environment rich in art and culture.
He studied with great teachers, like Swami Shyam, from whom he learned esoteric music; Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, who became his main music teacher; and Ravi Shankar, from whom he learned to fully master the sitar.
Roop lectured and taught at several Western universities and played in some of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe, India, and the United States, where he lived.
